ABOUT US

Ride for a Cure is a cancer awareness nonprofit which started in 2020. As cancer centers struggled with traditional fundraising efforts and social distancing became a priority, ATVers around the state were continuing to enjoy their sport while adhering to social distancing guidelines.

In October of 2020, Acadia Area ATV’ers hosted the first annual Ride for a Cure event which left their clubhouse in Hancock, Maine and traveled approximately 70 miles where participants enjoyed a BBQ lunch in Amherst. Participants were encouraged to decorate bras and their ATVs in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Approximately 50 machines and 75 helped raise over $3,200 through the registration fee, 50/50 and raffles. The money was split between the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center and the American Cancer Society.

In 2021, the event continues to grow with support as more participants joined the bra and ATV decorating fun. This  is the first year RFAC partnered with Wing Dingahs food truck as they offered lunch along the trail. The event raised over $4,000 which was again split between the Beth C. Wirght Cancer Resource Center and the American Cancer Society.

In 2022, the Ride for a Cure committee in partnership with Acadia Area ATV’ers club members decided to make a change in who received donations to include only smaller nonprofits in Maine. In addition to the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, we also selected Christine B. Foundation and Team Haileys Hugs. There were 68 machines and 125 participants who help raise an outstanding total of $9,000.

In 2023, Ride for a Cure obtained its 501c3 nonprofit status after operating under Acadia Area ATV’ers as their fiscal agent. During the year, Ride for a Cure attended two sportsmen expos in the community to raffle a pink kayak and bring more attention to this event. Other business within Hancock County started hosting their own fundraisers to benefit our event which lead us to our most successful event thus far. We had 85 machines and 150 participants helping to raise over $12,000.

Ride for a Cure will continue to grow and make a difference for cancer centers in Maine and hopefully expand to support other non-profits needing fun and inventive ways to raise money. We are dedicated to making a meaningful difference in our community through our active projects and volunteer staff. With a strong belief in our inherent responsibility, we strive to achieve our goals and positively impact Maine and its communities.
